The Denver Streets Partnership has been collecting petition postcards and e-mails from hundreds of Denver residents calling on Mayor Hancock and City Council to fund safer streets - so many that when strung together along a ribbon they will wrap around the entire front of the Denver City & County Building!

Come help hold up the ribbon and make your voice heard!

• At noon, participants can make personalized posters that say "People Friendly Streets matter to me because . . . "
• At 12:15 we'll unroll the ribbon with postcards attached. Each participant will hold up a portion of the ribbon along with their poster.
• Denver Streets Partnership leaders will gather with the media at one end of the ribbon and make brief introductory remarks, then invite the media to walk along the ribbon to read your posters/hear your stories about why People Friendly Streets are important.

Funding is urgently needed because Denver's streets aren't safe. On average, one person dies in a traffic crash every week, just trying to get around Denver. At our current rate of spending--$5 million per year--it would take more than 100 years to complete the 240 miles of missing bike lanes and 2,000 miles of missing and substandard sidewalks. That is not acceptable. We're calling for the 2019 City budget to include: 

• At least $6 million for new bike lanes to connect neighborhoods in the city;
• At least $10 million for new sidewalks where they are missing on the city's high injury network;
• At least $5 million for safety improvements on Federal Boulevard;
• At least $1 million for quick, low-cost improvements that can enhance safety immediately while the city finds additional funding for longer-term improvements;
• Funding to update Denver's street design standards.
