Video games. Free art lessons. Live music. Air Hockey. Cheap food. Jesus. The Escape is open to 6th-12th graders every Wednesday evening. Admission is free. These students will change the world. Escape Student Ministries is a big deal to Liberty Street Church. In fact, it’s such a big deal that they gave the ministry its own building (affectionately known as “The Escape”). Why is Escape Student Ministries such a big deal? Because students are a big deal! That’s why we do what we do. We go to concerts, camps and conferences. We work with local schools and community groups. We train adult leaders to lead small groups and out of those small groups come student leaders who lead in just about every other aspect of the ministry. We believe that teenagers share the privilege to “be the church” as much as any other Jesus follower and we want to see them tap into that privilege and run with it. Our goal is not to roll out a group of cookie cutter “church kids” and push them to do things the way they’ve always been done. Our goal is to connect our students to Jesus, to see them come into a personal relationship with Him, and to show them what it means to be His hands and feet in their families, schools, and neighborhoods. We want them to want to be part of the church, so we listen when they tell us what they like and what they don’t like about our program. We want them to want to listen to what God has to say to them through His Word, so we listen when they tell us what makes for an exciting message and what makes for a boring one. We know we don’t have it all figured out and we know that we’ll probably never get there, but we’re never going to stop trying. We’re never going to settle for “the way we’ve always done things” if the way we’ve always done things isn’t impacting the lives of the students in our community. Come and join us on our journey at The Escape!
