Vision Statement: "Fix the man, fix the world" - “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17 (NIV) Men have a God given mandate to reject and throw off the emasculating messages that bombard them from every direction in our society. Over the past 50 years we have been engaged in a societal experiment that aimed to counter male chauvinism, but has ended up swinging too far into a kind of female chauvinism which deprecates men and boys. We have emasculated them, making them eunuchs emotionally, socially, and worst of all, spiritually. One of our core convictions then is that men have a universal need to recover their true masculinity, and the first step in achieving this is to return to their Maker, and be reconciled to how He made them and designed them to be. To help us achieve this purpose, we teach about biblical masculinity and authentic manly traits; how God has uniquely made men and specifically designed them for a unique and specific reason and a purpose. 1 Samuel 4:9 says - "Be strong and quit yourselves [get up on your feet and get ready to fight] like men… quit yourselves like men, and fight." 1 Corinthians 16:13 likewise says - "Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you [be brave and manly] like men, be strong." For men to sharpen each other they need to 1) connect or be in relationship with each other on a regular basis, and 2) continue “the conversation that never ends” which basically, is a conversation on historic, virtuous, ideal manhood. The concept of the ideal man is just that: a concept; an ideal unto which every man and boy should naturally aspire to. This is why some refer to the code of chivalry as “the spirit of chivalry,” since it embodies things both conscious and unconscious, and is the stuff of dreams as well as deeds. No man has achieved this ideal except for one, the God-man Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, the belief in the importance of striving to embody such masculine ideals calls men to strive to live their lives on a higher moral plane. As Brad Miner put it in his excellent book, The Compleat [sic] Gentlemen, “No man behaves as a compleat[sic] gentlemen all the time, but the best men never cease yearning to do so.”
