Description Marietta Memorial Hospital Corp. was formed in 1921 by a group of local citizens who saw a need for a large, centralized health care center in the community. The undertaking would be a memorial to Washington County residents who lost their lives in World War I, these pioneers decided. A massive community fundraising and organizational campaign came to fruition when, on July 9, 1929, the hospital admitted its first patient.
