We put the temporary in contemporary.
Local Color is a haven for creatives, makers, artists and thinkers. This is an Exhibition District adventure.
San Jose is rapidly urbanizing. Buildings that are here today are gone tomorrow, and until these sites are razed, we are left with a city full of vacancies. By leveraging these voids, we address the lack of affordable creative workspaces and regular community activation. Local Color is an uncluttered, adaptive incubator for creatives and our community to collect people, spaces, things and ideas. This nimble concept maximizes the utilization of shuttered properties in between development cycles while simultaneously establishing a true third space. Building a tradition of community through proactive placemaking now fosters fellowship in the advancement of San Jose.
Local Color is a project that aims to reactivate out-of-use or inactive buildings and transform these spaces into:
Creative workshops for the Community
Shared Studio Space for Independent Artists
Pop-up bazaars for Local Makers
Local Color is sponsored by Knight Foundation and brought to the community in partnership with San Jose Downtown Association (SJDA), an organization committed to making downtown SJ a better place for business, residents and visitors.
