Green Ridge Cemetery
6604 7th Ave, Kenosha, 53143, WI, United States
Historic Green Ridge Cemetery is an active cemetery. We also encourage people to take advantage of our self-guided walking tour. In 1838, Before Mrs. Charles (Catherine) Durkee died, she requested to be buried at one of her favorite spots on the family's property--a lovely knoll south of town. After Catherine's death, Senator Durkee donated several acres of land around his wife's grave to the city for use as a cemetery. This area, which became known as City Cemetery, is at the north end of today's Green Ridge Cemetery. Some noteworthy figures buried in Green Ridge: Charles and Catherine Durkee. Zalmon Simmons, founder of Simmons Mattress. Samuel C. Johnson, founder of SC Johnson Co. Rev. Abner Barlow, Revolutionary War Veteran. Sisters of Community of St. Mary, Kemper Hall. Richard & Beatrice Wells, Orson Wells' Parents Col. Michael Frank, Father of Wisconsin Education. 178 years after Catherine Durkee's death, we are still caring for Kenosha's families. Please come by and visit a piece of Wisconsin's history. Brochures for self-guided tours are available in the office. Please be advised that Green Ridge is still an active cemetery. We ask that you be respectful as you explore the grounds.
