The City of Garfield was founded in 1917 and the Y followed shortly thereafter in 1926. Having said that, this is the facility that is rooted deep within the community and where many walk in and have memories of their childhood swim lessons, or camp. Children who have learned to swim at the Y are now lifeguards at the very same Y, parents who had their children in child care at the Y are now staff at the very same Y. This is the facility that no matter how it ages, will always hold dear memories for community members. For new comers, it holds a wide variety of programs for youth and adults. Home to child care, swim lessons, fun swim and family swim, karate, youth sports like soccer, t-ball and basketball, along with Silver Sneakers’ classes, Adult Aquatic Classes in our recreation sized pool and a sauna, Cardio Room, and Family Events like the Sesame Street Fair, Healthy Kid’s Day and the Holiday Ball, 33 Outwater Lane is the facility that has something for everyone. The beauty of 33 Outwater Lane is in its original form and structure, the age can be seen of the years that have passed, but the facility’s vitality is undeniable! Aquatics and Fitness Facility 490 Midland Ave Garfield NJ 07026 973-272-8855 Monday-Thursday 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Aquatics Center has been home to the Garfield Y’s swim team and youth swim lessons along with adult lap since 2006. At this facility a fitness studio for group exercise classes is available (Zumba, Nia, Bootcamp, Yoga, etc..) cardio room, free weight room and a lap pool. Family Swim is held once a week in this pool along with private swim lessons. Swim Teams from the surrounding area rent this pool during swim season and is home to over 5 different swim teams for practice and meets. The location of 490 Midland Ave is the upper, back portion of the Garfield Boys and Girls Club. A separate ramp and entrance can be found in the back of the parking lot.
