Brandywine Counseling & Community Services (BCCS) Delaware Overdose Survival Education (DOSE) Program promotoes opiate overdose education, prevention, rescue, and reversal using Naloxone. Through a collaboration between Brandywine Counseling & Community Services (BCCS), the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH), and the Delaware Division of Substance Abuse & Mental Health (DSAMH), the BCCS Drug Overdose Survival Education (DOSE) Program offers a series of opiate overdose prevention trainings (DOSE Workshops) throughout Delaware. The BCCS DOSE Program trains individuals on how to identify and respond to an opiate overdose. The workshops also offers individuals the opportunity to obtain the opiate antidote Naloxone at the conclusion of the training. The DOSE Program is offered at multiple locations, and additional workshops may be available to groups upon request. Through current partnerships, BCCS expands the knowledge and risk around opiate overdose, and equips individuals with the training needed to respond appropriately to opioid overdoses, Naloxone has shown time and again it has the ability to reverse the effects of an overdose and give individuals a second chance at life. “In our current climate, as the State and community-based organizations such as BCCS battle the heroin and opiate epidemic in Delaware, the DOSE Program is a defining tool to educate and train those who may find themselves in a position to make a difference between life and death,” said Dr. Lynn Fahey, BCCS CEO. “Getting Naloxone into the hands of those who need it most is a priority for BCCS, and for our partners.”
