Cush is an interfaith coalition actively living our faith and values in the pursuit of justice through advocacy, education and empowerment.
Our Values
We are guided by our many faith traditions in all efforts
We respect the dignity and worth of all human beings
We celebrate and promote diverse communities
We honor integrity and maintain accountability
We are committed to building relationships among our members, enabling us to act together for social justice
We believe we have a responsibility to seek the common good through advocacy and action
To create change, CUSH utilizes the tools of:
Education: Helping communities better understand the issues that affect their lives;
Advocacy: Speaking with a common voice for justice;
Action: Moving beyond the walls of our churches to make our presence felt and to transform community
Religious Leaders Caucus
The Caucus is comprised of the religious leaders in our faith communities. It is the vision bearer for the organization and works to shape and forward the mission of CUSH by reflecting on our faith and taking action to address injustice.
Task Forces
Our task forces are the action groups that plan and implement activities and events to address issues of injustice and oppression. Through our task forces, we aim to bring a message of hope and action toward positive change in our community. Issues we address arise from the voices of those in our community.
CUSH is Non-Partisan
As an organization that works to address systemic change, we are often engaged in public as well as political affairs. CUSH does not endorse candidates or parties. We believe in the need to build relationships with all elected officials.
CUSH currently includes 10 member congregations: Beth Hillel Temple, Bradford Unitarian Universalist, Immanuel, Lord of Life Lutheran, St. Anne Catholic, St. Mark Catholic, St. Mary Lutheran, St. Paul Lutheran, Second Baptist, and Trinity Lutheran. We also have individual sustaining members who are CUSH members from nonmember churches.
It all started with the Gamaliel Foundation
CUSH is part of a larger organization called WISDOM – a Wisconsin network of faith communities working individually and together to advocate for justice for all. Working in partnership with WISDOM on state and national issues gives us a stronger voice in our efforts to create change. WISDOM, in turn, is a member of the international Gamaliel Foundation. They seek to discover, train, and organize leaders to build community and to work together for the common good. Gamaliel includes organizations like CUSH in more than 20 states in the USA, as well as in South Africa and Great Britain.
