Our mission is to join forces with the community to eliminate health inequalities and improve health through research, education and service.
Making Rochester a Healthier Community
Imagine living in one of the healthiest communities in the world. This is the ambitious goal of The Center for Community Health & Prevention. We are at the heart of a community-wide transformation to make Rochester a healthier place to live, learn, work and play.
Our mission:To join forces with the community to eliminate health inequalities and improve health through research, education and service.
The Center for Community Health & Prevention was established by the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) to develop and expand academic-community health partnerships dedicated to improving the health of our community. It represents a new model of institutional commitment to community health that focuses on prevention.
In a pivotal “match making” role, the Center connects URMC faculty, students and staff with community partners. Our shared goals are to increase community services and community-based research to improve health one person, one program, and one policy at a time.
Today, community health is formally recognized as the fourth mission of the medical center, alongside research, education and service.
