Osteria La Madia’s Chef’s Table on May 11 will bring the day’s Green City Market bounty to life
Osteria La Madia’s highly respected chef/owner, Jonathan Fox, will bring his skill and passion to creating a special Green City Market-inspired improvisational Chef’s Table at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11 at Osteria La Madia, 59 W. Grand Ave., in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. The menu will be determined on that morning, as Chef Fox will shop at Green City Market to find the freshest and most flavorful ingredients of the season from which he will create his menu.
“This is what a Chef’s Table should be,” said Fox. “The idea is to bring delicious surprises to the guests while stimulating the culinary creativity of the chef. Improvisation is one of the hallmarks of a great chef—the ability to create delicious and memorable food the way jazz musicians come up with a beautiful improvised arrangement for a song. I will be inspired by the traditions of Italian cuisine to bring the day’s ingredients to life, but I won’t rely on any pre-set recipes or menu.”
Seats at the Chef’s Table are limited. The price per person is $65 including wine, excluding tax and gratuity. For reservations at Osteria La Madia or for more information, call 312-329-0400 or visit
About Osteria La Madia
Osteria La Madia, located at 59 W. Grand in Chicago’s River North district, is where two pleasures—great food and distinctive, delicious wines—come together. It is an urban Italian osteria that pays homage to traditional Italian cuisine, featuring house made pastas, anti pasti, salumi and prosciutto, formaggio, salads, and a full entrée selection. The robust wine list features more than 75 wines by the glass, a handsome bottled wine collection and some very crafty cocktails.
Food specialties include Carnaroli Risotto with Black Alba Truffles and Pecorino; Wood Roasted Who Branzino with Fennel, Grapefruit and Pine Nuts; Pan Roasted Chicken with Braised Winter Vegetables, Capolini Onions, Apple, Jus; Slow Roasted Leg of Lamb with Acorn Squash and Fingerling Potatoes, and Chianti Braised Short Ribs with Roasted Baby Carrots, Carnaroli Risotto, and Grana Padana Parmigiano.
Fans of Osteria La Madia’s pizza are never disappointed. The award-winning fired-roasted selections were developed as a result of chef/owner Jonathan Fox tasting dozens of styles of pizza in the U.S. and Europe. Chef Fox put his own spin on this most elemental of dishes and the results are outstanding.
Osteria La Madia’s menu is designed for sharing, with flavor-packed, wood-fired pizzas that change seasonally, inventive salads, and savory pasta dishes. Desserts are all made on premises, in keeping with what is seasonally available.
In addition to wine, Osteria La Madia offers innovative cocktails, many of which are made from spirits infused in-house. Service is attentive, giving guests ample time to savor their food and drink in a relaxed yet up-tempo atmosphere.
