This course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Refuse To Be A Victim (RTBAV) seminar. RTBAV is an excellent way for Instructors to become known in their local community by conducting these low cost seminars for groups like home owners associations, churches, and parent-teacher organizations. The required student RTBAV seminar will be conducted from 8AM-noon. These are small, intimate classes taught by a husband and wife team—both former law enforcement officers, mature professionals with substantial firearms experience. Classes are conducted at our dedicated training facility with onsite range. Maximum of 10 students. Please take a look at our website for much more information about us and our philosophy: website and Facebook.  NRA Training Counselor Doug Rehman is a retired Florida Department of Law Enforcement Special Agent, a Professor at Valencia College, and has been teaching for nearly 25 years. To ensure a comfortable and safe training experience, we built a facility, making Doug the only Training Counselor in Central Florida that owns a dedicated training facility (classrooms, onsite range, Pro Shop w/ FFL).  We have two decades of experience in building and operating multiple successful small businesses in both the service and retail sectors—experience we pass along to our students. We believe in a mentoring relationship that doesn’t end when the class is over.  Our Training Center is located just minutes from Downtown Eustis and Downtown Mount Dora. There are many hotels and B&Bs nearby. You can compare them, including pricing and ratings, here.   To become a successful NRA Instructor requires more than just knowing how to teach the class. Before you sign up for a class with any Training Counselor or Instructor, including us, we strongly advise you to check them out. We have a blog post that explains many of the issues you should understand when selecting a Training Counselor so that you get the best possible training for your training dollar. If cost is your only criteria for choosing a Training Counselor, you will find many others that are cheaper. However, if you are seeking the best value in training, we believe that you'll find it with us.  You will need to bring: Pen/pencil and paper for note taking Yellow highlighter ***This includes the required RTBAV student class in the morning.*** ***You must be at least 18 years old to attend this class.*** ***While NRA membership is not required to be an NRA Certified Instructor, we strongly recommend it. As an NRA Certified Instructor, first and foremost, you should support the organization that provides your certification by being a member. Second, supporting the NRA through your membership is the most effective means of supporting the Second Amendment. Third, if you are not a member of the NRA, your Instructor credentials will be delayed by a couple of weeks while a non-member number is generated for you; NRA members will typically be credentialed within a day or two. You can use this link to join or renew at a 25%  discount. for a single year (the 5 year and Life are even greater discounts). If your primary interest is the defensive use of firearms, we strongly recommend selecting "Shooting Illustrated" as your magazine choice. If you're not a member, but plan to join, do so immediately to ensure you get a member number assigned before the class.***  Since 1871, a major objective of the National Rifle Association has been to provide education and training in the safe and proper use of firearms. Knowing how to shoot is an important requirement for NRA Instructors, but you will also need to know how to teach others to shoot. NRA Instructor Training Courses help you develop the additional knowledge, skills and techniques needed to organize and teach courses in the NRA Basic Firearm Training Program. To qualify as an NRA Instructor: Candidates must possess and demonstrate a solid background in firearm safety and shooting skills acquired through previous firearm training and/or previous shooting experience. Instructor candidates must be intimately familiar with each action type in the discipline for which they wish to be certified. Candidates will be required to demonstrate solid and safe firearm handling skills required to be successful during an Instructor training course by completing pre-course questionnaires and qualification exercises administered by the NRA Appointed Training Counselor. Candidates must satisfactorily complete an NRA Instructor Training Course in the discipline they wish to teach (e.g., NRA Basic Pistol Course), and receive the endorsement of the NRA Training Counselor conducting that training. NRA Instructor courses are discipline specific. During the course candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures; basic public speaking skills; training methodology; use of a training team and training aids; organizing a course, building a budget; and finally preparing to teach. In addition, candidates will be provided the appropriate lesson plans and basic course student packets. Role-playing is a major part of an Instructor course; therefore, the minimum class size should be at least four candidates, with 10-12 candidates being ideal. Candidates take turns working in teams, actually conducting portions of the course to other candidates who portray basic students. Instructor training courses are conducted by NRA Training Counselors. Training Counselors are active and experienced Instructors who have been certified by the NRA to train experienced shooters to teach others to shoot. Training Counselors will evaluate candidates' performance based on their ability to handle the firearms with confidence, use of appropriate training aids, following the lesson plans and meeting all learning objectives, while utilizing the teaching philosophies expected of NRA Certified Instructors. Candidates can also expect to learn the NRA discipline specific instructional methods and evaluating and improving the performance of beginning shooters. General Information: Due to Federal Regulations, you MUST be a US Citizen or legal permanent resident (Green Card holder) to attend the class. You must not be prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a firearm. The ATF form 4473 lists those prohibitions. (If you answer "yes" to any of the following, YOU ARE PROHIBITED: 11b-i, 12b.) If you have a state ID allowing for the purchase/use of marijuana, YOU ARE PROHIBITED. Attending the class is not a guarantee of becoming an NRA Instructor. To become an NRA Instructor, you must participate fully in the class, show proper firearm safety throughout the class, possess the shooting skills necessary to pass the Instructor qualification, and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to teach NRA classes. All students will be required to sign a liability waiver at the beginning of the class. You must be at least 21 years old to be an NRA Certified Instructor. Candidates 18 and older can be credentialed as Assistant Instructors. Youth 13-17 years of age with the necessary emotional maturity can be credentialed as Apprentice Instructors. Assistant and Apprentice Instructors assist Certified Instructors in conducting training classes. Anyone 13-17 years old must be accompanied by a parent for the duration of the class, whether the parent is taking the class or not. There is s written exam requiring obtaining a grade of 90% or above to become a Certified Instructor. Assistant and Apprentice Instructors must achieve a minimum of 85% on the two examinations. The test is open-book, allowing for the use of your notes and class materials.  The NRA requires a minimum of four Instructor Candidates in an instructor class. In the unlikely event that the minimum number of students is not reached by a week prior to the class, you will have the option of receiving a full refund or transferring your registration to another class and receiving a 10% discount. As soon as the minimum is reached, we'll notify students registered for the class. In the event that one or more students fail to show up for a class that had met the minimum, we have ways of accommodating that—the class will proceed. There are no refunds. If you are unable to attend the class session you have signed up for, your fees will be applied towards another session of the same class within 12 months. If you do not attend another session within 12 months, then your fees are forfeited. If for some reason we are forced to cancel the class session you are registered for, you can either obtain a complete refund or you can select another date for that class and we will refund 10% of your payment.
