Do you know if any Rottweilers that still have their tails will be there. My dog went missing a year ago. Still trying to find him.

I need to find a dog that either is trained or trainable for a PTSD service dog for my daughter. Can anyone direct me? She has specific breeds she's researched that make calming service dogs in mind.
Steve Smith
-- 30/05/2017 22:11
I would recommend Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers, Labs (especially Yellow Labs). The Goldens & Rotti's in particular are VERY sensitive emotionally, and very, very trainable. Stay away from the Herding breeds (Australian Shepherds/Cattledogs, Border Collie's, etc...). Wonderful dogs, but get neurotic if not kept busy. As far as resources... www.servicedogsfl.org www.k9sforwarriors.org (if she's a veteran) www.canines4hope.com Hope this helps...

You're very welcome. Also, don't discount mix-breeds. Any dog with the right temperament can make a great therapy dog. A good trainer will be able to spot a good candidate. My Rotti's were wonderful with sick kids at the local children's hospital, while one of the other therapy dogs was a sweet Pit-Mix. It's all about the connection between your daughter and the dog. It's either there, or it isn't.

Greyhounds make great service dogs too.. sweet and gentle dispositions. One of the most affectionate breeds I've ever had. Just putting that out there.

Sorry to ask but where is this at ?
Becca Marie
-- 28/05/2017 13:37
It's at multiple locations throughout Gainesville, FL. Alachua County Animal Services is located at 3400 NE 53rd Ave. Alachua County Humane Society is at 4205 NW 6th st. The Petsmart on Archer Rd. will have rescues there both days. Not sure of the fourth location, but probably at Gainesville Pet Rescue, which is also on Archer Rd.
