Join the Mortara Center for International Studies, on Monday, 3/19/18 from 12:30-1:30pm for a conversation and Q&A session with  Soyica Colbert (Georgetown University), Clarence Lusane (Howard University), Katrin Sieg (Georgetown University), and Scott Taylor (Georgetown University) on International Relations and Marvel's Black Panther. The discussion will be moderated by Mortara Center Director Abraham Newman.

Soyica Colbert is the Chair of the Department of Performing Arts, Director of Theater and Performance Studies and an Associate Professor of African American Studies and Theater and Performance Studies at Georgetown University. She is the author of The African American Theatrical Body: Reception, Performance and the Stage (Cambridge University Press, 2011) and Black Movements: Performance and Cultural Politics (Rutgers University Press, 2017). Dr. Colbert edited the Black Performance special issue of African American Review (2012) and co-edited The Psychic Hold of Slavery (Rutgers University Press, 2016). She is currently working on two book projects, Lorraine Hansberry: Artist/Activist and I See You: Blackness in Visual Culture and Performance Theory. Clarence Lusane is Professor and chairs the Department of Political Science at Howard University. He teaches courses in Black politics, comparative race relations, modern social movements, comparative politics of the Americas and Europe and jazz and international relations. He is an author, activist, and scholar, and a well-respected expert in the areas of human rights, global race relations, U.S. elections and politics, and international relations. He is the author of more than 100 scholarly articles and eight books on human rights, U.S. and black politics, globalization, and European history. Katrin Sieg is Professor of German jointly affiliated with the BMW Center for German and European Studies and the German department. She holds a Ph.D. in Drama from the University of Washington, Seattle, and taught at UC San Diego and Indiana University, Bloomington, before joining Georgetown University in 2002. Her research focuses on German and European culture, postcolonial and critical race studies, and feminist studies. The author of three scholarly monographs on German and European theater, performance, and cinema, she has received several awards and grants, among them a Humboldt Fellowship, and two awards for her second book, Ethnic Drag: Performing Race, Nation, Sexuality in West Germany(2002). Scott Taylor’s research and teaching interests lie in the areas of African politics and political economy, with a particular emphasis on business-state relations, private sector development, governance, and political and economic reform. His articles have appeared in a number of political science and area studies journals. He is also the author of four books: Politics in Southern Africa: Transition and Transformation (with Gretchen Bauer); Culture and Customs of Zambia; Business and the State in Southern Africa: The Politics of Economic Reform; and Globalization and the Cultures of Business in Africa: From Patrimonialism to Profit.
