Anyone can stream the class, but there are only 25 cupping packages available, so act quickly if you'd like to participate!

This package includes a 4 oz bag of our summer seasonal blend - Firefly - along with 4 oz bags of each of the single origin beans that are used in the blend. We also include detailed cupping instructions, complete with a list of the materials and equipment you need to set up a cupping at home. We will roast the coffees and mail them to you in advance. On the day of the cupping, tune into our Twitch.tv stream where we will lead you through the process via the magic of the internet!

What is cupping, you ask? Cupping is the coffee industry standard method of tasting coffees. Coffee professionals use this method regularly to taste samples from farms, to assess quality of roasted beans, and to enhance their palates. It is a fairly low tech way to taste a lot of coffees quickly and eliminate variations in brewing devices and technique. Essentially, we put ground coffee into bowls, pour hot water on it, let it steep, then skim the grounds and oils from the top. Then, we use a spoon to slurp the coffee and assess its qualities.

If you’ve never done this before, you’ve got to try it out. It’s a great way to compare coffees and really notice the differences between beans. It can give you a greater appreciation of the craft of coffee roasting and the immense skill and labor of the farmers.
