Have you ever wondered how the Jewish calendar was created? How did it evolve from our early understanding of lunar and seasonal cycles? How is it related to the secular calendar? What role did Hillel and Maimonides play in its construction? What’s up with that pesky extra Adar?

As a computer scientist at IBM Research, David Frank became fascinated with the mathematics and sociology of calendar systems. In this lecture, he’ll explore the origins and evolution of the Jewish Calendar, revealing its intriguing mysteries from pre-Babylonian times, through the rise of Rabbinic Judaism, to the present.

This event will be followed by refreshments.
Admission is free, but please RSVP so we can plan!
