With McGill, who is principal clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic, the ensemble plays Penderecki's lean quartet, an exercise in tonal extremes, as well as Brahms' ingenious late quintet, which masterfully integrates the clarinet into the sonic world of the string quartet.
