Friday, 4/12/19: Indian and Nepali classical music with HariMaya Adhikari, Sagar Khatiwada and friends
Harimaya Adhikari (Himalaya Heritage Performing Arts), originally from Nepal, holds a Master’s in Music from the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India, and taught music at a university in Nepal. She sings and plays the harmonium, a hand-pumped reed organ. Ms. Adhikari performs for Indian, Bhutanese, and Nepali communities in New Hampshire and throughout the Northeast, especially for religious events and important traditional celebrations. She plays classical Indian music as well as sacred and popular tunes, and composes some of her own music in the South Asian traditions.
Sagar Prem Khatiwada holds a Master’s degree in music from the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India. He was born in Nepal and comes from a very musical family; his brothers play the bamboo flute and sing. Khatiwada plays the tabla (a double drum with resonating surfaces on the top side) and the madal (a single drum with resonating surfaces on either end). He started playing in 1994, practicing every day for hours. After graduate work, he was a music instructor at a university in Nepal. In addition to his musical expertise, Khatiwada studied Sanskrit and is a Hindu priest. He joined the Music School faculty in 2017 and teaches as part of the new South Asian traditional music department.
Friday, 5/24/19: Fugue Mill
Mark Shilansky and his group Fugue Mill weave jazz through the fabric of Bluegrass, Celtic, and Classical music, creating a complex yet attractive blend of musical styles and traditions. Original group pieces are featured side by side with music by such composers as Thelonious Monk, Leonard Cohen, and Samuel Barber. Violin and multiple stringed instruments augment the quartet of piano, guitar, bass, and drums, creating a transparent and vibrant palette of improvisation and counterpoint. Members of the group combine their wide-ranging experience playing with such artists as Luciana Souza, Esperanza Spalding, Stevie Wonder, and Darol Anger into a musical melange that explores diverse idioms, linked through improvisation and groove.

Friday, 6/28/19: Deep Blue C Orchestra
A studio orchestra is made up of woodwinds, brass, percussion and strings as in a symphony orchestra. It also includes a rhythm section of guitar, bass guitar, keyboards and drum set as in a jazz combo or show orchestra.
“Doc” Vose followed his dream to spread his deep love and respect for the musical contributions of composer Burt Bacharach, lyricist Hal David and many others from John Williams to John Lennon, by assembling his own Deep Blue “C” Studio Orchestra, 17 members including vocals. The DB “C” concerts are elegant and classy.
