On the first Tuesday of every month, we hike Mt. McCoy. We ll meet in the parking lot at the northeast corner of Madera and Royal, just south of the Donut Delite. We ll walk from there to the trailhead at 2 Washburn St. where it meets Los Amigos Ave.

This event is cross-posted with the Rancho Simi Trail Blazers (RSTB), who also have a hiking meetup group. The Rancho Simi Trail Blazers hike Mt. McCoy every Tuesday evening year round. While not too difficult, this still provides a hike that is satisfying to the legs as well as the eyes. This accessible location is on the west side of Simi Valley, a very short drive from the 118.

From the top of McCoy you will have a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of Simi Valley, Moorpark, the Simi Hills, the Santa Susana Mountains, the Santa Monica Mountains, and on a clear day, the Channel Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

As an official event of the RSTB, you will be asked to sign the standard Park District "hold harmless" agreement.

The leader of the RSTB will generally be Mike Kuhn, a human encyclopedia of local flora, fauna, geology and history, or one of the other sanctioned RSTB hiking leaders.

The Hike:

We cross Madera and continue through the neighborhood for about 1500 , to the intersection of Washburn St. and Los Amigos Ave. Then we enter a path behind the houses and proceed for 250 to the entrance. So far, there will have been very little elevation gain.

We ll enter a series of switchbacks for 1.2 miles to a large cross at the top. This is a steady climb across the face of the hill, always in full view of the neighborhood below. Beginners may find this climb difficult to continue at a fast pace. There is nothing wrong with slowing down while faster hikers move ahead, or resting for a minute several times during this climb.

It may seem easy to get lost because there are many different cross-paths up the face of this hill, but they all lead to the same place. Generally, whenever there is a choice of "left or right", we take the easier and more worn path. If you happen to find yourself alone and take a wrong turn, all paths lead up.

At the top by the cross, we ll enjoy the gorgeous views!

***This hike ????‍ is being held as a "Protest" to California s stay at home policy.*** (Please maintain a distance of 6 + at all times!????)
