Class Description
This class deepens the knowledge of the guiding style by examining a video case study in which the client is quiet and the empathic connection is hard to make. Learners practice more complex reflections and how to use MI-consistent questions. Completing Miller and Rollnick’s OARS skills, this class also examines the nature of affirmations and how to craft a useful and effective summary. Using these skills the learner can navigate through four different processes in the conversation, depending on where in the change process the client is at that time. The class concludes with discussing barriers to using the approach.
