Experience the Mississippi River through an evening of stories and flavors from the 2017 Rivergator Celebratory Expedition!

We are providing a close-up look at the Lower Mississippi River, as seen from a 30’ voyageur canoe, after paddling 1000+ miles between St. Louis and New Orleans. There will be photos, videos, words, and a three course meal, engaging a little bit of food history and a variety of camp cooking from the river.

Chris Battaglia paddled and filmed the entire six weeks of the Rivergator Expedition. Through production company, Village Vitals, he is currently producing a feature-length documentary about the Lower Mississippi River. He will be cooking alongside Amanda Porter, his partner who was also able to experience the river for a stint during the expedition.

The food this evening is inspired by a cookbook more than 100 years old, and probably the oldest American outdoor cookbook - published in 1887 by Forest and Stream Magazine (later merging with Field and Stream in 1930). During the expedition, we tested several recipes - from coffee to catfish - and bring to the table a local palate with revised and updated recipes from both Mississippi River cooking, and this antiquarian treasure.

Food Menu:

Johnnycakes

 Invasive Greens (Salad)

Willow-smoked Cusk Carbonara

Bread Pudding

Drinks Menu:

House Cocktail

Choice of Beer or Wine

Tickets are $45 for three courses, two drinks, and a uniquely inspired dining experience. In partnership with Full Plates Full Potential, a portion of the evening's proceeds will go towards ending child hunger in Maine. Food, just like the River, connects us all!

The Rivergator is a mile-by-mile paddler's guide written for canoeists, kayakers, stand-up-paddleboarders, and anyone else plying the waters of the Lower Mississippi River in human-powered craft.

Village Vitals is a member of 1% For the Planet. 1% of all sales will benefit local environmental organizations at the end of the year.
