A musician since childhood, Melissa Bishop has found her way from classical and jazz to songwriting. Trained to compose, she found that she enjoyed the turns of phrase in popular music – and the chase began. She writes for the Nashville world of country and contemporary Christian (her most recent Christmas tour was as lead pianist for the Transiberian Orchestra Tribute Show: The Prophecy.) When she’s writing for herself, it’s a mix of singer-songwriter, blues, pop and southern rock. For Melissa, nothing is better than a group of good friends, good wine, and a good story that winds up as a song.
When Melissa isn’t working on her music, she helps to develop the talents of up-and-coming songwriters. She has been a professor at Webster University for eighteen years, where she teaches music theory, history, and the department’s newest degree – Songwriting.
