Thanks to the rapidly expanding craft coffee industry in America, we're seeing a rapid influx of people attracted take up careers in the industry, specifically to becoming baristas. As this culture shift progresses, and the role of the barista shifts from being viewed as a "fill in" job, to a legitimate long term career, we're faced with the task of empowering baristas with the tools to map out a career path that takes them beyond a minimum wage job, onto a fulfilling, well thought out and legitimate career into the years ahead.
This workshop, designed for baristas (or hoping to be baristas) only, is focused on unpacking what the role of the Barista is in todays rapidly evolving American craft coffee landscape, and what a long term career across 10 year would look like with some planning.
The workshop will start with a general look at a 10 year barista career map, break it up into it's 3 distinct phases, and drill further into what the focuses during those 3 phases should be. Discusion and exercises will be aimed towards showing attendee how to tailor the map for their own career in order to move with confidence through an inspiring career as a barista.
Together we'll explore the specific challenges facing everyone attending the workshop. We'll do this by looking at the data collected from a pre-workshop survey each attendee will be required to complete online before they attend the workshop (results will be kept confidential).

The workshop will be run by Lee Safar, San Diego based Australian specialty coffee career barista of 15 years (Australia, USA and London) and long time entrepreneur.

"I've been mentoring baristas around the world for years and guarantee that you'll leave this workshop with the tools you'll need to start creating the clarity you need in your career, make choices that empower you, understand how to find the right employer for you, and gain confidence in what the next two years of your career should look like." - Lee Safar
Tickets limited to 40 seats. You will be emailed a survey ahead of the workshop. This workshop will NOT go into coffee preparation techniques.
Please note: This workshop is focused on creating a safe space for baristas, or people wanting to become baristas, to share of their experiences and ask questions freely, without worrying about how those questions/comments may affect potential future job prospects. For this reason it is respectfully requested that cafe owners/operators do not purchase tickets as you will not be permitted to attend.
