The Mamas Day Dinner is an extension of the National Mamas Day Celebration created by Forward Together. This years theme is Black Mama's Right To Parent. Black mothers face a number of challenges and their ability to survive and thrive is an act of resistance. This dinner is about celebrating Black mamas for all the amazing things they do and for being the cornerstones of their communities.
Our vision is to uplift the voices of Black women and femmes. We envision connecting with women so we can begin developing and collaborating with the communities we serve. Mamas Day Dinner is a first step in fostering relationships amongst our invited guests. We will be hosting a panel discussion on the current state of a Black mothers right to parent. According to the CDC, black mothers in the U.S. die at three to four times the rate of white mothers, one of the widest of all racial disparities in women’s health.
We believe in the power of storytelling and knowledge. Black Mamas Day dinner will be for women to connect on their birthing stories and to provide information for women to share with their communities. We envision an intergenerational dinner that will celebrate Black mamas and uplift their right to parent!
