What are your hopes and concerns for your community? What are the most important issues in your community right now?

The New York Public Library (NYPL) is teaming up with the Local Voices Network (LVN) and THE CITY newsroom for a project that seeks to record neighborhood conversations on important local topics. These recordings will be shared on a searchable website for journalists, decision-makers, and other local stakeholders to tune into the community’s real concerns.

We need the participation of local community members to make this a success.

Here's how it works:

  • Step one: You'll join a 4 - 6 person recorded conversation with fellow New Yorkers in your community, facilitated by NYPL staff. You'll share real concerns, stories, and ideas connected to your experience living in NYC.
  • Step two: Our recorded conversation will then be transcribed, keyworded and posted on a website to be shared with media outlets, local decision-makers, and other neighborhood stakeholders with the goal of offering a new window into issues that are important to our community.

Together, we'll create a platform where everyone is invited to be heard.

Space is limited. RSVPs are necessary for this program. Refreshments will be served.

About the Local Voices Network:

The Local Voices Network project aims to bring the perspectives and concerns of everyday New Yorkers to light through facilitated community conversations that invite anyone and everyone to the table to share and listen. Conversations are recorded and transcribed with the goal of offering media, local leadership, and the greater public a new window into the most important community issues. About THE CITY:

THE CITY is an independent, nonprofit news outlet dedicated to hard-hitting reporting that serves the people of New York. Our reporters pound the pavement in all five boroughs, working with New Yorkers to tell their stories and make their lives better. We’re here to listen to New Yorkers, dig into their concerns and deliver stories that drive the public conversation and set the agenda on key issues. At a time when the media has been upended by technological, economic and political shifts, we want to reconnect people back to local news – and reconnect local news to getting action.
