San Francisco is rich in LGBTQ+ history. There is not another city in the world that possesses the fierceness and tenacity of San Francisco.

However, how do we remember LGBT history? How do we honor it? Why is it that we don't have a museum?

Join us for a cyber conversation with Executive Director of GLBT Historical Society Terry Beswick on why we need an LGBT History.

More about Terry:

Terry Beswick brings over three decades of experience as a community leader in HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ activism to his current role as Executive Director of the GLBT Historical Society. Beswick has worked as a journalist, activist, fundraiser, and policy-maker with AIDS- and LGBT-related nonprofit and governmental organizations in San Francisco and Washington, DC, including Project Inform, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the White House Office of National HIV/AIDS Policy, the National AIDS Program Office of the Dept of Health and Human Services, and the Bay Area Reporter, among others.

In the mid-1980’s, Mr. Beswick was a co-founder of ACT UP in San Francisco and the first coordinator of ACT NOW, the national ACT UP network. Currently, his focus is on building the first full-scale museum of LGBTQ history and culture in North America. He holds a MFA from San Francisco State University.

San Francisco and the surrounding 5 counties are in the midst of mandated shelter-in-place. All businesses except those deemed essential are closed and many Bay Area residents and scared, nervous, and wondering about the future.

Manny's , a civic gathering and events space located in the heart of San Francisco, is rising to the occasion to create and promote a month's worth of live civic conversations to distribute needed information, give people the hope, and continue to civically engage the public in a time of need.

About Manny's :

Manny's was opened on election night 2018 to create a physical place for people to go to become better informed and more involved citizens. Since opening we've hosted 17 of the Presidential candidates, over 550 civic events, talks, and gatherings, over 40 members of Congress including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and leaders across different social justice movements like Alicia Garza, Jose Antonio Vargas, Michael Brune, Cleve Jones, and Gabby Giffords.
