Level 1 Minimal Sedation INITIAL PERMIT Course, March 23-24, 2018

Course Summary:  This course will provide the necessary training to satisfy the requirements to obtain a Level 1 Minimal Enteral Conscious Sedation permit in the State of Texas. Designed to provide an excellent training and review of pretreatment evaluation and management of office emergencies, this program will benefit all healthcare providers. 

Course Presenter: 

Dr. David Grogan:  Is an Associate Professor and Chairman in the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery & Pharmacology here at Baylor College of Dentistry.  He graduated from Baylor in 1981 and received an MSD degree in Oral Surgery in 1986.  He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.  After completion of his residency training, Dr. Grogan entered private practice as an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon in Waco, Texas. He was an important participant in designing the new sedation and emergency guidelines for Texas dentists, on behalf of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.  In 2003 & 2010, Dr. Grogan was        voted “Teacher of the Year” by the undergraduate dental students.

  • 8:00 am - 8:30 am – Registration
  • 8:30 am - 5:30 pm – Presentation

Location: College of Dentistry, Room 605

Credit: 16 hours lecture

Course Fee: *$450 Dentists: COD Faculty $360

AGD Codes: 132 Anesthesia & Pain Control; 163 Conscious Sedation; 164 Oral Sedation

* This course is limited to 50 participants.  This course is intended for dentists and specialist who need to fullfill their CE hours for licensure.  Postgraduate residents may also attend to obtain their initial permit for level 1 enteral sedation.

Teaching Methods:  Lecture, case scenarios, interactive questions and answers

Continental breakfast and lunch served both days

  • Pharmacology of commonly used oral sedatives
  • Techniques of oral sedation
  • Pros and cons of various medicines
  • Comprehensive review of patient evaluation systems and vital signs
  • Allergies to local anesthesia
  • Medical considerations for Conscious Sedation
  • Monitor functions and standards of care

A $50 fee will be assessed for any course  cancellation.  All payments by check or cash are deposited into the Texas A&M account  and CANNOT be refunded.  “No Shows” for a course  forfeit all tuition. Confirm notification of cancellation by e-mail.The CE Office cannot be held responsible for a  non-refundable airline ticket.
