Learn the art of true personal storytelling, StorySlam Oakland style, in a supportive online environment with a showcase at the end.
Have fun socializing once a week with other storytellers in a close-knit group. Discover the great stories in your life experiences. Learn how to tell them in a compelling way. Gain confidence and skills.
As the creator and producer of StorySlam Oakland, I ve been performing true stories in public and putting on live, open-mic storytelling shows for 8 years -- every month, twice a month. I have seen and told a lot of true stories.
I believe telling a true story is an art that anyone can learn. It gets better with practice and training. It is one of the most rewarding things you can do for your life - confident self-expression.
Each six-week workshop is limited to 8 participants in order for everyone to have a substantial amount of individual attention.
Each storyteller will also receive an hourlong one-on-one session with me (a $75 value).
The end of the workshop will be an online Student Showcase where friends and family can attend.

CURRICULUM
In my workshop you will learn:
Story structure
What to leave in and what to take out - the essential components
How to tell a story in a compelling way
Story format; how to shape or craft it
Where to find stories
How to take a life experience and make it a story
How to engage and connect with the audience
The class will be mostly participatory and hands-on, with very little lectures. You will exercise your storytelling muscle at every class meeting with check-ins in story format. Soon you will develop an instinct for storytelling, without ever having to write it out if you don t want to.
You will learn from, support, and hopefully befriend, the other students during feedback sessions.
Humor and vulnerability will be emphasized.
It will be a safe place to explore any true story you wish.
