Symbols, slang and clandestine codes of the queer community, paired with music by the Lakeside Pride Jazz Orchestra. From hanky code to flags and icons, members of the LGBTQ community have developed a rich history of symbols and unique vocabulary to identify one another and provide visibility. Through sophisticated modern jazz, the Lakeside Pride Jazz Orchestra takes us on an exploration of these symbols to illuminate their meaning and context.
Percussion typical of jazz music will be used. There will not be pyrotechnics, strobe lights, or smoke effects.
Wheelchairs have a flat path from the sidewalk, up an elevator, to the theater where there is wheelchair accessible seating.
Wheelchair accessible and all-gender restrooms are located on the same floor of the theater. Restroom signs are marked with braille.
Programming is presented in English. Sign language interpretation can be arranged with one week’s advance request. We will attempt to accommodate but cannot guarantee sign language interpretation requests less than one week before the performance.
Other accessibility questions can be directed to info@lakesidepride.org. We will make every effort to accommodate needs and incorporate requests in future events.
For our 23rd season, Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles is celebrating the full spectrum of the LGBTQ community with the theme “Rainbow Connection.” This year, our ensembles will present six concerts to highlight what makes us unique as well as what brings us together in the rainbow that is our family. Join us as we show our true colors, celebrating everything and everyone who makes this community great — including the lovers, the dreamers and you.
Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles is Chicago’s premier family of performance groups for members and friends of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. Home to three major ensembles – Jazz Orchestra, Marching Band, and Symphonic Band – plus over a dozen chamber ensembles, the organization offers a diverse musical experience for both its audience and members.
