Presenter: Eric Toky
Description: There’s a common idiom — “the ship of state” — that vividly portrays modern life as a bustle of loosely organized interests, a population going about its various businesses manning different stations in a complex, interconnected system. Almost all of us help make the ship move forward; almost no one is setting the course. In this metaphor for the modern city, arts, culture, and design serve several vital purposes. During this talk Eric will discuss the challenges, opportunities, and the responsibility of creative thinkers in developing our cultural hubs. Giving each of us a compelling perspective on our role(s) as community stabilizers, but also visionaries.
