The Sand City Art Committee (SCAC) is hosting the first annual Sand City Juried Art Show. The exhibition will be on display from August 26 to September 25, 2016, at the Independent Gallery on Ortiz Avenue in Sand City, California. Works will include paintings, sculpture and multimedia; jury prizewinners will receive cash awards ranging from $100 to $1,500 for best in show.
The exhibition is being produced by the Sand City Art Committee in conjunction with Celadon Arts (www.celadonarts.org). This is the first exhibition of an annual event. An important goal of the show is to expose the Monterey Peninsula to a wide variety of artistic expressions and to develop the creative community of Sand City by fostering interactions with artists from all over the state.
The show's juror is Gail Enns, owner and Director of the Green Chalk Contemporary gallery in Monterey, California. Since 1989, she has served as the Director of Celadon Arts – a 501c3 arts management organization – producing exhibitions in galleries, museums and art spaces in Washington, D.C., New York City, Amstelveen, Netherlands, and most recently in Monterey, California. From 1982 to 2000, she owned Anton Gallery in Washington, D.C. Enns moved from Washington, D.C., to the Monterey Peninsula in 2003.
Sand City is a small community on the Monterey Peninsula that is home to a large number of professional artists. It is also host to the West End Celebration, an open street fair featuring live music and the works of more than 100 artists and artisans that runs from August 26-28. The first day of the West End Celebration will coincide with the opening of the Sand City Juried Art Show on August 26, 2016.
