Speakers: Tanya Rollins, MSW, CPS Disproportionality Manager/Texas Department of Family Protective Services/Co-Founder at Child Welfare Race Equity Collaborative (CWREC); Hon. Aurora Martinez Jones, Associate Judge, Travis County Civil District Courts/Co-Founder at Child Welfare Race Equity Collaborative (CWREC)
The Child Welfare Race Equity Collaborative (CWREC) was established to address disproportionality in the child welfare system in Travis County. The CWREC’s mission is to focus on racial inequities within the child welfare system, confront and acknowledge the racial disparities in the community through building awareness, providing education, advocacy and holding systems accountable for equitable policies. In this CLE, the Co-Founders of the CWREC will discuss the data that sparked the formation of this collaboration and discuss how child welfare professionals can use this information to make competent decisions about how to best support equitable outcomes for the parents and children served in CPS cases. Discussion will include understanding implicit bias as well as how to deepen cultural competency and use this knowledge to be effective advocates in the courtroom.
