Explore Jim Brossys Larger Than Life, an exhibition of mixed media paintings, in which Brossy constructs random moments of a weathered Americana, using a variety of materials. See it from September 3 through September 26 at the Pier. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Cherry Street Pier is open rain or shine.
Brossy doesnt think of his paintings as a representation of life, rather they are a real thing, an object in real space, that can be experienced as a picture. Using a variety of materials, tar, wax, latex, steel, fabric, and other non-art materials along with traditional art materials, Brossy constructs weathered Americana.
With patterns, rhythms, and textures he builds form. The materials each offer a series of sensibilities. The method of execution poured paint with gestural drawing, assemblage, and collage adds a variety of geometric elements. Text is used as both a visual and political element. Through the combination of image and written word, the paintings can be literally read on several different levels. Larger Than Life is a record of events in American culture, a collection of moments.
Opening reception: September 3, 6 9 pm
