Jazz Over Easy: Burlesque Brunch

Tucked neatly away in a pseudo-grunge music venue about the stellar Bank and Bourbon bar and restaurant is a wooden stage with an antique bar, cramped mezzanine, and cozy floorspace. At each of the tables there, draped elegantly, adding to the shabby-chic style of the whole ordeal, is a place for you, front-and-center. Pull up a chair to the timeless music of The Midnight Society playing everything from Fats Waller to Bing Croasby spanning the 1910’s, 20’s, 30’s and 40’s in music. With bottomless mimosas, incredible brunch items that bridge the gap between freshly smoked barbecue and breakfast classics what more can one ask for, you ask? Well, how about an interactive and ever-rotating cast of different performers that range from burlesque to comedy to sideshow. Down in the audience, chatting you up at the bar, and up on the stage surprising and entertaining you.

Drew Nugent, legendary local jazz front man of the Midnight Society is gearing up for the emergence of his very own cabaret troupe: Nugent’s Follies on the 16th with this soon-to-be monthly brunch extravaganza each second Sunday of the month. Why should brunch be tame when it can be a party? Come preview the acts from the Follies, listen to hot jazz (sometimes played on a teapot and a phonograph horn), eat irresistible food, flirt with burlesque dancers, and day drink while jazz through the ages plays across the room.
