“Divorce – Off the Beaten Path”
Speaker: Steven Abel
When do you consider obtaining a QDRO? For example, take a look at this couple!
They are uncoupling under one roof and living together in the same house. There is no child support and no maintenance, instead, they share the children’s expenses. They paid for college themselves, they don’t feel that there should be a college commitment to pay in place. However, he’s retired and she’s still working. Does she get a QDRO? Yes, no, or maybe?
In Steven’s presentation, you will learn more about QRDO’s, when they’ve gone wrong, and other considerations of a QDRO such as:
- If living apart is optional
- If monthly child support or maintenance is optional
- If college contributions are optional
- When QDROs are needed
- When QDROs are not needed
- When QDROs are very inappropriate
