Jamila Woods at Risley

First we had CHANCE, now we have JAMILA; and if you thought he blew your mind on the slope, just wait until you enter the hallowed halls of Risley on March 25!
We first heard Woods on "Sunday Candy," where that silky voice came outta the blue to entrance us into a sugary-sweet daze. But even after that, who could have expected her brilliant, acclaimed, important, dazzling, inventive, beautiful debut album HEAVN, which came out over the summer. It's an album, according to Woods, "about black girlhood, about Chicago, about the people we miss who have gone on to prepare a place for us somewhere else, about the city/world we aspire to live in." It's an album that's packed full of messages and themes that are more vital today than at any time in recent memory.
