You're invited to the Metro Memphis Attractions Association February membership luncheon! It will be held on Tuesday, February 18th at the Hilton Memphis located at 939 Ridgelake Boulevard. Networking begins at 11:30 am and lunch will be served by Noon.
This month we are honored to welcome one of our own as our speaker. Our program will be presented by Elaine Lee Turner, founder and owner of Heritage Tours. Her business is a local sightseeing tour company that focuses on the African American heritage in the city of Memphis that was organized in 1983 and the first of its kind in the state. The research involved in founding Heritage Tours led to the recognition and documentation of numerous locations and events in Memphis history. Elaine Turner is also the Director of the Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum, a house which served as a way station on the Underground Railroad, and the W.C. Handy Home & Museum, the historic home of the Father of the Blues. In addition, she is the producer of the W. C. Handy Heritage Awards which pays tribute to the many outstanding musicians who have contributed to our musical heritage and to keep the legacy of W. C. Handy alive. Her program will focus on African American historical locations throughout the city of Memphis and the importance of these attractions in Memphis history and the impact they have on the city's image today. She will be sharing stories from her fascinating life including her famed Civil Rights activism that began as a teenager in Memphis and around the South to her work as a leader in African American heritage tourism. A program not to be missed!
