With their specific area of expertise in fighting cyber sexual abuse, the presenters will address strategies to fight cyber sexual abuse including family, civil, and criminal court remedies, such as specific proposed language for Orders of Protection addressing this abuse; criminal justice remedies regarding cyber sexual abuse, and remedies for victims to request take-downs of images and media online. Tech Issues and Solutions:  There are an increasing number of products, apps, and web sites that make it easy for abusers to engage in multiple forms of tech abuse.  As a result, abusers no longer need to be tech savvy in order to engage in serious tech abuse. This panel will discuss in detail some of the common forms of tech abuse used by perpetrators of intimate partner violence, as well as outline safety tips to help prevent tech abuse and technological interventions designed to help victims of tech. abuse.   When a Tornado Hits Your Life:  A discussion led by a professor and survivor regarding her qualitative research relating to cyber sexual abuse and survivor resiliency.  Facebook presentation: A Facebook representative will discuss the safety and security measures that Facebook offers surrounding cyber sexual abuse and tech abuse.A separate Facebook-lead discussion regarding law enforcement responses to issues with Facebook will be accessible to law enforcement professionals only. Evidence Collection: Evidence of cyber sexual abuse can be found in many sources – often it is most easily obtained from the victim. But does that provide a sufficient foundation for evidence in court? Panelists will discuss gathering, preserving, and using digital evidence in cyber abuse cases. From what exactly happens when a victim turns their phone over to law enforcement, to the ways in which prosecutors utilize digital evidence to prove their case, and tips for civil advocates to help clients gather and preserve evidence and protect their privacy. Special Considerations for Youth panel: In a world where technology has increasingly become the preferred method of communication for minors, so too has it become the most popular arena for abuse. In this panel, we will delve into the types of cyber and technology-enabled abuse most prevalently affecting children and adolescents. Our experts will explore topics ranging from the legal issues connected to intimate images of minors that are created by minors, the frequency and danger of cyber bullying, and effective and trauma-informed ways to speak with minors about this type of abuse.  Breakfast, coffee, and light refreshments provided.
