Proficient Riders: Riding Class: Ages 7-10

  • We reserve the right to decline your child’s participation in this class if we feel their riding ability will endanger themselves, the group, or impedes planned group activities. If you have any doubts about your childs riding ability, please contact us for consideration or consider the Early Rider / Intermediate class- you won’t have doubts after.

Intermediate Rider / Proficient Rider: Off Site Riding Class

This is a riding class. (Any doubts about riding ability please contact us or sign up for the lower level intermediate class).

The first day will be primarily drills to make sure we can ride as a group. Exercises and drills are then determined individually based on each child’s level and need within the group environment. For the remainder of the week, we will ride between 7 to 12+ miles each day in a non-competitive, supportive group ride. We will explore the Boulder trail network and bike-friendly roads as we ride to planned destinations. Think of it as field trips by bicycle. We may visit places such as the Valmont Bike Park, different local businesses, parks, streams, etc.Along the way, I will address trail etiquette, road safety, and bicycle safety. Here they will learn how to change a flat, to replace a fallen chain, to navigate traffic patterns, and of course find other adventures along the way.

Terrain will vary. Some trails will be dirt, a lot of it on paved trails through Boulder, with nothing too extreme. We go pretty far and are exposed to a variety of situations that require the students to be confident riders.

Age 7-10: Based on our experience kids of different ages have different endurance levels and also different needs in terms of skills to develop. Exceptions to these age-specific groupings can be made with instructor approval. Please contact us if you have any questions; We would be happy to talk about your rider and make the best placement possible.

PREREQUISITES
In order to take part in this riding class, every student must start the week confidently able to:

  • Stop – know how to stop, know when to stop, anticipate stopping so not every stop is an emergency stop

  • Control speed – ability to control speed in various terrain changes or within group. Example: Safely ride downhill able to stop at end if needed

  • Ability to change gears: if they have them

  • Have Stamina! Class is 3 hours a day, every day and we are active.

Class Min: 5 Kids

Class Max: 15 Kids

What KIDS should bring to camp:

  • Bike - It's a good opportunity for us to safety check your child’s bike and see what they are riding at home. I will make suggestions and adjustments if needed.

  • Helmet (if you have one) - They will receive a helmet fit. Wearing a helmet is mandatory during this camp for any activity on the bike.

You will receive a more comprehensive list of what to bring as the camp approaches.
