This improvisation workshop is open to all instruments and will explore different concepts of jazz improvisation.
The emphasis will be on developing motivic and phrasal ideas within the chord changes but will touch on other elements of jazz improvisation as well (dissonance, volume, 2 & 3 note clusters (for chordal instruments), and other ideas explored organically as the workshop develops. The goal is to break your improvisational habits and get you exploring ideas you haven’t thought of before. We will pick a jazz standard or two to apply the concepts we’re learning. A recording device is highly recommended.
