Improv Fundamentals: Narrative

Class Dates: Sundays on February 25, March 4, 11, 18, 25, April 8 (No Class April 1)  Performance Date: Saturday, April 14th - 7:00pm Improv Fundamentals: Narrative  Once upon a time, there was an improv student who thought they could never come up with any interesting stories. But one day, they took the Improv Fundamentals: Narrative class and everything changed! But what comes next? Improvisers are not only the actors on stage, but the writers and the directors, too. This course focuses on what makes a good story, and gives you the skills necessary to create one on your feet, out loud, in front of an audience. Phew! That sounds like a lot, so wed better get started! Great for writers and storytellers of all stripes!  The Mopco Improv Fundamentals Wheel Each of the four classes in the Fundamentals Wheel offers work on the core tenets of improv through a unique lens. The four classes are: Environment, Character, Narrative, and Scene. These reflect basic skill areas that good improv demands, all using the same core principles. You can jump into the wheel at any point and you don't need to take them in any particular order.  Performance Each Improv Fundamentals and Musical Improv 6-Week course each has a unique performance element that showcases the skills you focused on during the class. You'll be able to show off to your friends and family everything you've learned. The performance is not mandatory but we bet you'll want to take part. Participation is dependant on consistent attendance. FAQs Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? 18. We offer youth classes for younger improvisers! Check out our mopco.org/classes to find a class. How active are these classes? Our classes involve a good amount of physical activity - you should feel comfortable being on your feet for at least an hour. Please email hey@mopco.org with any questions about accommodations for ability. I’m feeling nervous about coming to my class. Should I still come? Yes! Introverts and extroverts alike get nervous before their first class. The good news is everyone in the class is here to grow and celebrate creativity. We work to create a trusting and safe environment for our students to explore improvisation. You don’t need any special skills to do improv and we work to make that clear right at the top of class with games and exercises that show you how creative you already are. Your teacher won’t put you on the spot or make you doing anything before you’re ready. What is your policy on absences from class? After two absences, students will not be able to participate in the performance at the end of the class. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Street parking is available on Union and N Jay street by our Theatre. Parking is available in the lot behind Pereca's as well as other public lots within a short walk of the theatre. The lot directly across from us is reserved for the Rossi & Ditorro Funeral Home and is not always available for parking. DO NOTpark in the lot by JoJo’s Auto Service or you will be towed. Less than 7 days: Your place in the class is non-refundable unless we can get someone to fill your spot.  Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
