i2b2 TranSMART Foundation: Harvard Symposium 2020

The  i2b2 tranSMART Foundation is pleased to announce fourth annual Harvard Symposium   will be held at Simmons Univeristy and the Harvard Medical School on June 11th and 12th, 2020.

This annual event brings together academic, industry and government clincians, scientists and technologies who share the experience of using i2b2 and/or tranSMART from across the US and Europe.  The two day meetiong includes speakers who will explore – in the context of i2b2 and/or tranSMART implementations – hot topics such as 

• big data challenges for healthcare, 
• networking data locally, regionally or nationally for better care, 
• extending data repositories beyond clinical data, 
• protection of health data privacy and security,
• data governance and ethical aspects of data warehousing (notably with respect to the new European GDPR),
• bringing new academic and research prototypes to operational settings (challenges in deployments, testing and maintenance),
• patients’ view on the benefits of reusing their data for research.

Thursday June 11th will be formal presentations, discussion and networking at the X at Simmons University.  Our keynote speaker is John Wilbanks from Sage Bionetoworks.  John will talk about "Sharing on a spectrum: building an ethical data commons".  A preliminary Agenda is available at our website, but there is still time to sign up for presenting a poster or use case at the Symposium.

Friday June 12th will be held a short distance away at Countway Library, Harvard Medical School.  There will be a half day session focusing on the ACT network, with the second half bringin together the various Working Groups of the Foundation.  Addional breakout sessions will be added depending on the interest.  We will also have walk-in sessions with experts on i2b2, tranSMART and from Paul Avillach's lab on the PIC-SURE platform.
