In this session, we’ll explore various techniques used to lay out a page. We’ll start with a single-column layout and then use CSS to create distinct sections and columns.

Workshop Topics
  • Web design basics
  • Absolute and relative positioning
  • Floats
  • Centering a page
  • Designing for a variety of devices

SPECIAL NOTE:  Please arrive early!  It may take a few minutes to log in and get set-up to follow along with the workshop.

FAQs

Are there ID requirements?

  • YES. Students, faculty and staff must bring a valid Panther ID to the workshop. Driver’s license, Jag cards, or any other form ID can NOT be accepted. Not with Georgia State? See “I don’t have a PantherID” below.

I’m running late. Can I still attend?

  • It can take a few minutes to log in and get set-up to follow along in the workshop, so we ask folks to arrive early. However, to limit disruption we limit admission to 10 minutes after published start time. Too late? That happens – check back at http://technology.gsu.edu/training for the next workshop.

The workshop says sold out! What are my options?

  • Add yourself to the waitlist. If people cancel, their tickets get released and we send an email notice to those on the waitlist. However, we often have no-shows, so consider coming to the workshop at its scheduled time; no promises, but you have a very good shot of getting a seat.

The event registration is closed.  Can I still take the training?

  • If registration is closed and you’re sure you can come, send a request to PantherTech@gsu.edu. If no one signs up or sends a request in time, we usually cancel the workshop so the instructor can work on other things.  It’s always worth checking though, so definitely reach out!

I don't have a PantherID.  I'm not a student or university employee!

  • Not a problem! Our workshops are open to the public for a small fee.
  • The fee is $10 per session for attendees that are not actively part of GSU. Payment must be in the form of a check or money order (we cannot accept cash!). You’ll also need to fill out and bring this registration form with your payment (again, checks or money orders only)
  • Lastly you NEED to send an e-mail to PantherTech@gsu.edu at least 3 business days prior to the workshop so we may request a guest log in for our computers and wifi to ensure you can participate. These requests must be done in advance, so it’s vital you let us know beforehand!

I’d like to bring someone with me.  Is that OK?

  • Yes! The more the merrier. If they are part of GSU they’ll just need to bring their PantherID with them. If they aren’t from GSU and wish to participate in the workshop see above – “I don’t have a PantherID.” If the person you are bringing just wants to sit in and not participate, unfortunately in this case they’ll have to wait outside the workshop. Please remember these workshops are here for the GSU community and paid participants.

I have other questions.

Thanks for your interest in our workshops!
