2 Saturdays Workshop:This course introduces students to fruit tree selection, planting and care for backyard fruit trees or a small-scale orchard. The course includes content about desirable varieties, hands-on pruning and training methods and details on pest management. The emphasis is on organic production methods and is intended for students interested in organic agricultural production, edible landscaping, agroecological education and sustainable plant husbandry. Saturday, Feb. 1st, 10am to 4pmClass 1: Introduction and pruningThe class will be an introduction covering the general information, but our main focus will be on winter dormant tree training and pruning practice of deciduous trees. We will grow your confidence with hands-on pruning and training practice and tree anatomy observation. Saturday, Feb. 8th, 10am to 4pmClass 2: Propagation and bare-root plantingLearn various techniques of propagating a fruit tree, planting, and care. Pre-requisite: This class will not cover material taught in Class 1, so attendance in Class 1 -- or a familiarity of basic tree care -- is a pre-requisite for attending Class 2.
