Was looking at pics last night... Anyone head back over to the batting cages to hit few balls or try their arm out and see how fast they could throw after event? It was A LOT of fun.

In case anyone wants to know the ugly history of segregation in baseball and what a big deal it was for Jackie Robinson to become the first African-American (AA) player accepted into the majors, first AA to become MVP and help Dodgers win 6 titles!!! ... here are the notes I took for 45 min!!. 😂 1867 Pythian Club denies AA baseball club membership in National Assoc. of Baseball Players 1877 Jim Crow laws are passed 1880s some AA were allowed to play, but last AA player in 1884. 1887 International League owners agree to not sign anymore AA players. National Colored Base Ball League is formed. 1907 Sol White's History of Colored Base Ball; recorded AA history. 1920 Negro National League is formed and 1923 Eastern Colored League is formed. 1924 World's Colored Championship. From early 1900s, back and forth of AA and Latino ball players. AA players would play in PR, Cuba, and Mexico and treated like princes. Many great Latino players played in AA leagues because they couldn't play in the majors due to the color of their skin. Baseball spread from US to Cuba to DR In 1931, both the Negro National and Eastern Leagues had folded because of the impact the great depression had on attendance. But by 1933 and 1937 the 2nd Negro National League and the Negro American League formed and grew into a multi-million dollar enterprise. The Mexican League opened its doors to black players in the late 1930s. In 1946, Jackie Robinson breaks the minor league color barrier joining the Montreal Royals. April 15th 1947, Jackie Robinson is the first AA player to join Major League Baseball. By 1948, Negro National League folds because players have moved to minor and major leagues. 1949 JB wins MVP award. With JB, Brooklyn Dodgers won 6 titles: 47, 49, 52, 53, 55, and 56 1951 first all black outfield in the World Series NY Giants 1956 Don Newcombe wins Cy Young award and MVP. 1959 all major league team integrate. 1970 Pittsburgh Pirates have all black lineup. 1974 Black players are 25% of League 1997 Jackie Robinson's jersey number 42 is retired throughout all levels of professional baseball-- first time

Can someone bring some duct tape? The bolts on the flag pole are a little loose and I'd love to put some tape over to make sure they stay on.

Hey folks - I had hoped to shadow this event but between life (a flu) and family (my daughter has an unexpected spot at a sporting event) I'm going to have to sit this one out. I'm sorry I'll miss not seeing your suffering. In no particular order, crush it and have fun on Saturday! Play ball!

If you weren't aware, I won't be able to make this, so HQ executed a squeeze play and Cadre Chris Sanchez is taking over as skipper (see what I did there?). We had an awesome conversation about this event, and I'm 100% confident you guys are in for an awesome time! I'm looking forward to seeing the pics and videos from this! Play ball!!

For service there are plenty of people in need after these three hurricanes, plus earthquakes in Mexico. Does the service project need to serve the immediate community of where the light is taking place?

Less than a week out, anyone have ideas on the Community Service component? Team weight and flag are covered. UPDATED: Team weight is now NOT covered. Not sure if anyone else noticed but GORUCK just bumped team weights for Light events from 15# to 25# (confirmed). Sooo we're prob gonna need a new team weight because the custom one I made for this event is only 15# and I don't have a logical solution on how to add 10# to it. Totally bummed. They also modifed the individual required items list as well so check it out if you havemt already. Nothing crazy but just an FYI for you when you throw together stuff for Saturday.

I was looking at places to stay Fri - Sun last night: hotels, B&B, airbnb, vrbo, etc. Basically whatever I could find which, strangely isn't much since tournaments are over. Anyone interested in getting a larger place together OR have room for 2 people in theirs? Looking to stay local in / around Cooperstown with plans to check out HoF museum and brewery on Friday ;)
Daniel Branzburg
-- 05/09/2017 21:22
Check out places in Oneonta, NY. About 30-45 minutes from Cooperstown and there are number of hotels/motels. Do NOT stay at Super 8 or the motel next to Losie's Gun Shop.
Tony Licari
-- 05/09/2017 21:22
There are an abundance of rooms in the area now. Don't bother going to Oneonta. Check airbnb or the holiday on Rt 28 by the dreams park. I live local so let me know if you need any support.
