Just as early Christians made their way through the city of Jerusalem, pausing to pray and to contemplate the mysterious journey of Christ to the cross, so we make our way through this city, this Montrose neighborhood - pausing to pray, to listen, and to remember. Ride through local landmarks and hear their histories, paired with readings from the Bible that reflect both the pain and the love they witness to throughout time and place . Visit the sacred ground of immigrants, freed slaves, and queer-folk as we meditate on its meaning. Stops include the burial place of Camp Logan survivors, several locations in Freedmen’s Town, holy spaces in the Gayborhood, and other sacred ordinary places many of us pass everyday.
LOGISTICS: The route is about 5 miles and our pace will accommodate riders of every age and ability. We welcome young riders, but won’t be hiding history’s uglier stories of violence - full disclosure, ya know? Bring your own bike or rent one from the nearby B-Cycle station at Waugh and Westheimer. Please where a helmet and lights! All are welcome.
