Western Michigan University's Gold Company is making their debut at the 2018 Monterey Jazz Festival and we get to hear them first!
Gold Company, part of the innovative Jazz Studies program at WMU, maintains an active performance schedule throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. This past year Gold Company performed with MOSS, the New York Voices, Kurt Elling and toured California, where they placed first at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, earning the invitation to the Monterey Jazz Festival.
The Jazz Studies program has earned over 160 DownBeat awards since 1984, consistently ranking it among the top three collegiate award winners in the nation since. Over 75 of those awards have been earned by Gold Company and members of the Gold Company program.
Gold Company is directed by Greg Jasperse and is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students whose majors range from jazz studies to vocal performance, music education, music therapy and more. Graduates of the program are currently working everywhere from Broadway to Hollywood
