Cultivating Western Maryland’s Food Future Conference
Friday, April 3, 2020
Allegany College of Maryland
The Western Maryland Food Council invites you to the 2nd annual “Cultivating Western Maryland’s Food Future 2020” Conference, addressing all aspects of the food system in Garrett, Allegany and Washington Counties. The Keynote speaker for this year’s event will be Dawn Plummer, Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council. The theme for this year's conference, Next Steps - Programs, Policies and Partnerships, will help attendees continue the discussion from the first conference, focusing on the actions needed to improve the food system in western Maryland.
The morning sessions will focus on projects and partnerships that will enhance the food system in one of four areas: food economy, food access, food education and health and environmental sustainability. Speakers will highlight programs they are involved with and will explain their projects from conception to implementation. Participants will be engaged in brainstorming and discussions to identify and develop ideas for local projects and partnerships.
Afternoon sessions will focus on policies that affect the food system in western Maryland. Policies can refer to local, state and federal government policies to procedural policies at private companies that affect the food system. Participants will select from one of the four areas of focus for policies. Speakers will present ways they are supporting projects that change policies. Session participants will be asked to identify needed policy changes and the steps to assist with policy change.
The conference will feature exhibitors with food system expertise, services and products. If you would prefer to register by phone and mail a check call the Allegany County University of Maryland Extension Office at 301-724-3320.
