Folkwear 119 Sarouelles (pants) Workshop - sewing and embellishing

Join this fun and informative workshop to sew up a pair of Sarouelles from Folkwear patterns.  The Sarouelles are gusseted pants, traditionally worn in Africa, Turkey, and India.  At this workshop, you will learn about the history and culture behind these pants, you will sew a pair for yourself, and you will learn to embellish the cuff with tradional designs.  Price: $125

Limited to 10 participants (16+ years old)  

• Level: Adventurous Beginnger/Intermediate.  You can sew a straigth line, thread a machine, have used a sewing pattern before and can trace a pattern.
• Please bring: 119 Sarouelles sewing pattern (can be purchased at www.folkwear.com, use SAVANNAH for 15% off your order), your sewing machine (we do have a couple that can be made available), fabric for the pattern, and coordinating thread.  
• Please either cut out your pattern or trace it and cut it before the workshop.  We will cut and sew fabric in the workshop.  There are 3 types of pants in the Sarouelles pattern: the Turksih pants (like harem pants are loose and gathered at the ankle), African pants (gusseted and simple, ankle cuffs can be embellished), and Indian (slight gather at hip, ankle cuffs can be embellished).

Class Schedule:

• Friday: 4-6:30 - History and culture of the Sarouelles pants, Folkwear trunk show, fit adjustments and cut out fabric
• Saturday 10-12:30 - Sewing/creating your pants
• Saturday 12:30-1:30 - lunch break
• Saturday 1:30-4:30 - Learn traditional embellishment design, embellish cuffs (and/or practice embellishment techniques).

What is the cost?  

$125 includes the cost of two days of the workshop and materials/supplies used at the workshop, excluding pattern and fabric.

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?

16+ years old

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Location of the workshop is near Midtown Savannah.  Convenient to the airport and easy to drive to.  The parking for The Back Street Atelier is on  53 St and 54 St between Bull Street and Abercorn St. This is located in Ardsley Park which is a residential area in Savannah. Parking is free and close to the studio. There are curbside, parallel parking spaces.

What can I bring into the event?

See above, but you must bring the pattern (Folkwear's 119 Sarouelles), fabric, thread, and your sewing machine.  The sewing machine can be set up on Friday and left at the secure workshop location of Back Street Atelier.  If you do not have a sewing machine or are not able to bring one, please let us know and we will work to provide one for you.

What's the refund policy?

Full refunds are available up to 30 days before the event.  After that, we are not able to issue refunds.  Your ticket can be transferred to someone else.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, we will have a record of who purchased space in the workshop.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes.  Please do let us know if you are transferring your ticket to someone else.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Yes.
