Hey Foggy Ones... Here's a slightly delayed link to a playlist of some of the songs Mia and I used in class. https://itunes.apple.com/us/playlist/fog-city-stomp-2017-w-mia/pl.u-yxZVC4o8Pz (I've also attached a screenshot in case you can't access the playlist.) Also, I believe we promised a link to a document on music structure. Here 'tis: https://www.facebook.com/notes/andy-reid/jazz-music-structure-for-dancers/10157237936425204/ Thanks so much for welcoming us.

Hi! Andy and Mia said they were planning on sharing a playlist after the New Orleans class. Is that available somewhere?

[My email to the FCS team this morning. In the name of expressing gratitude and loving freely, here it is.] Hello dearest FCS team, Thank you for a beautiful event this weekend. From my attendee perspective, the event ran smoothly and professionally. I can tell that the choices you have made in hiring instructors and musicians, and the kinds of activities you devote time to (e.g. new comp formats, tiered solo tracks) were intentional and representative of a clear and thoughtful set of values. I appreciate the national scene leadership you demonstrate every year. Thank you for such a generous labor of love.

What Lindy means to me is friendship and community. Growing together and healing together . We laugh, cry and share life together in all stages across the world. Dancing is healing. It is fulfilling and brightens the soul. I am grateful to this community and for finding dance again. #emperornorton

Here's my submission for "why this community is special to me." Possibly not what you are looking for, but this is what is on my heart: In these times of senseless violence, incredible injustices in our country, and terrifying global challenges, we need places of safety, community, and simple joys even more. Good music, shared movement, friendly competition, exuberant showcases of talent, knowledge sharing -- those are all necessary and valid expressions of community. Lindy hop has all of those things and more. It has humans of all ages, races, gender identities and sexual orientations sharing precious musical moments with each other, one dance at a time. Feeling fearful, panicky, and anxious does not get us out of the messes that we've made. It's acting out of love, passion, and inspiration. Lindy hop gives me all of that in abundance. It helps me go back out into the world and be a better human after the dance has ended. #emperornorton

Reasons why the Fog City Stomp community is special to me: 1) It affords me the opportunity to meet with friends as we gather from all different cities and states to sweat, learn, celebrate our successes, and dance to truly sublime music. 2) I make new friends and get to watch people experience the joy of their first dance weekend. 3) I smile so hard that my dimples hurt. 4) Bein' silly is encouraged. 5) This is a carefully curated safe space that strives for greater inclusion of all dancers. #emperornorton

Reason #87 I love Lindy Hop: the community volunteers their time (and energy and muscles 💪 ) to make events magical. #emperornorton

Can you share more about what you mean by "this community"? Are we talking about the Fog City Stomp community? Your personal lindy hop community? The global lindy hop "community"?

There's something special about this year's FCS for me: I've been largely sidelined due to a bout of poor health. But I knew that coming in, and I've had an AMAZING time this year. I have time to look around the room and be warmed by all the folks I'm fond of dancing and playing and expressing their creativity to music. My eyes and ears and heart are full. Thank you, Fog City! #emperornorton
